Genevieve Sanders, aka Genny The Genie, became interested in the Art of Magic at nine years old while following her mentor Leroy Goodenough around as he performed Restaurant Magic in her parent’s restaurant each weekend. She began by learning some coin magic, small pocket magic and constantly wanted to learn more magic.

In third grade, Genny had a school project requiring her to write about a famous person in history. She decided to write about Adelaide Hermann, “The Queen of Magic” and to illustrate her report with magic. From the chick pan, to the change bag, to the milk pitcher, to the appearing and disappearing flower, she was a huge success and Genny got a taste of performing in front of an audience and she loved every moment. She also became fascinated with Women in Magic and reads and meets all the women performers she can meet. As well as Adelaide, she states she is particularly fascinated with Abby Skinner and Julianna Chen.

From almost the start, Genny participated, to the extent she could, in San Francisco Bay Area “Share The Magic” shows. At nine years old, appearing from a magic carpet in a puff of smoke, she was always in demand. Her pleasant, easy and charismatic style, and her huge “Sanders smile” made her a winning and unbeatable performer.

By eleven, Genny was a regular performer in her growing act at the Bay Area annual “Share The Magic,” “The Livermore Follies,” “Special Olympics” Benefits, and the El Dorado County Annual Fair as well as many other events including family parties for children’s birthday events and more.

Genny continued to faithfully work with her Mentor in Placerville, CA, and then at twelve, Genny attended her first major Magic Event, “The World Magic Seminar.” She attended the youth meetings and the world opened. That summer she was back in Las Vegas for Jeff McBride’s Master Class, an event that firmly made Jeff her magical idol. A few months later she went to compete in the Jr. stage division at the IBM Convention in Reno, NV. Genny was considered a hero for saving the Jr. Close- Up contest as there were only two contestants of the needed three. At the last minute Genny gathered together a close-up act and entered the contest, thereby saving the day for the other competitors. Though she didn’t win, she was a winner and received a special letter from IBM for her courage. In October 2004 Genny won the 1st place “The Golden Wizard” Jr. division trophy at the Sierra Sorcerer’s annual stage competition. In 2005 she won the 1st place “Golden Wizards Award” in the adult division of the Sierra Sorcerers Competition.

During her fourteenth year, Genny performed at every event, and every show around. She began to be hired for large events and practiced her skills at every moment. Seven successful showcase shows at the El Dorado County Fair later, she decided to compete at the Marin County Magic Fair and Bay Area Junior Competition. She won all the first place prizes and was so appreciated, that Jay Alexander, the magic event organizer asked if she would come back and perform at the end of the adult competition. She was thrilled to be asked and so happy when she received a standing ovation.

In August 2006, Sacramento IBM and SAM clubs decided to have a Regional Stage Competition with all the magic clubs in the area. As there was no Junior-category, Genny competed in the adult division, and won the first place “Golden Wizards Award. She was asked to perform her full stage act at the California State Fair in Sacramento. She looks forward to the 2007 “World Magic Seminar” as well as more Master Classes with Jeff McBride and has her eyes on Magic as a life’s profession.
