2010 Update:

Romany - Diva of Magic wins the IBM British Shield for most entertaining Stage Act. After winning Magic Circle Stage Magician of the Year 2006 for her comedy spoken act, Romany won this prize with a new beautifully crafted silent act.  Romany now performs all over the world as a flamboyant Mistress of Ceremonies, most recently for 3 months in Dubai in an imported colourful Speigeltent.  After polishing her act for weeks in preparation for the IBM Romany had a Skype session with Jeff just days before the competition and was able to pinpoint different areas to improve on. "Since Jeff has known me from my earliest days in magic, he knows my character so well that he is able to suggest different ways of doing things. Following that one session, I've still got a couple of months of work to do!"

Romany - Diva of Magic is The Magic Circle Stage Magician of the Year 2006/7. Romany captivated a packed Magic Circle theatre audience last Sunday from the moment she set foot on stage with an original and theatrical performance that mixed the glamour of a classic Folies Bergere showgirl with a dry and brilliantly timed wit. Her two volunteers from the audience became an integral part of the act when she fell head over heels for one of them (literally), as the magic unfolded. Meanwhile judges Jeremy Beadle, actor Melvyn Hayes and television producer John Kay Cooper fell under Romany's spell, voting her into a well deserved first place. Romany has performed in cabaret all over the world and her showmanship shone through in a tough competition that featured eight full-time professionals.

Romany - Diva of Magic writes...
“Phew! My first competition and what a great thrill to win! I have to thank all the many, many magicians who have supported and encouraged me, none less than Jeff! He has been a great source of inspiration and a wonderful mentor since my first days in magic and a visit to Mystery School in 1998. I’ve loved the Stage since I before I could remember and have worked with dance, juggling, stilt-walking, street performing etc. but it was magic that really caught my imagination when I discovered it 10 years ago. I was going to say that it offers an unlimited scope for creative imagination but actually it is limited, and perhaps its very limitations force creativity providing both the frustrations of attempting to make something appear magical and the joys when tech becomes magic and can be experienced by the audience. The recognition from my respected peers and of this prize IS wonderful AND a fresh starting point for the next stage of pulling my dreams down into reality. I can’t tell you what they are because magic doesn’t work that way! One thing I can say is that I’ll continue to work with Jeff, his enthusiasm, friendship and belief in me plus his expert magic guidance are invaluable.”
