 Phillip Kaiser is a 19 year old magician based out of Columbus, OH. Phillip has been winning magic competitions since he was thirteen and has currently garnered 12 awards for his unique magic. Phillip’s most recent accolade was the Lance Burton Award for Top Teenage Talent presented by the 2001 World Magic Seminar, held January 14-17. Phillip placed first out of a record 17 finalists for the stage competition that included IBM national and FISM award winners. Phillip’s act is a high energy manipulation piece that revolves around finding different prizes in boxes of Cracker Jack.
Phillip has been developing the Cracker Jack act for six years and over that time his magic has evolved a great deal from standard manipulation and dove work to his current unique performance style. Phillip was one of the very first group of ten students to take part in Jeff McBride’s Master Class. It was during this amazing experience that Phillip learned the key to transcending the cliche norm of magic and began to unlock his inner creativity. With a fresh outlook on the art of magic, Phillip took his act the next level and won more competitions. It was also the following summer that Phillip began his true development as a stage performer with work at a local amusement park.
As Phillip finished the 1999 season of shows at the amusement park, he took a trip that would cement another mentor relationship with the amazingly creative Champion of Magic, Murray Sawchuck. Murray helped Phillip focus on even more offbeat concepts and between the two of them, the very first steps were made in the transformation of Phillip’s material to the Cracker Jack act.
Last summer Phillip fine tuned his piece de resistance at Six Flags Mid-America, performing his act over four hundred times during three months. He identified weaknesses, discovered new subtleties, and innovated new technique. As Phillip returned to his studies at The Ohio State University, where he is a marketing major, he had a notebook full of ideas. Phillip set to work determined to bring his vision to the stage and that he did. In mid-January, Phillip debuted to the magic community his newest vision of motivated magic in the magic capital of the world, Las Vegas. The audience loved it, feedback was received, and Phillip’s hard work paid off as he won the competition and performed in his first true Las Vegas showroom in front of 1500 of the world’s finest magicians.
Phillip is currently gearing up for the immediate future. He is opening the headliner show of the Columbus MagiFest and has just signed on to perform his act as a featured entertainer at Six Flags Chicago for the summer. He will also be competing at both the IBM in Orlando and the SAM convention in New Orleans.
