 One of magic’s youngest rising stars, fifteen year old, Eli Portala is no newcomer to the stages of magic. Eli has literally been performing since the age of three. At six years old, Eli took first place at Abbott’s magic convention and since then has been winning top prizes at competitions across the country. In 2006, at just 10 years old, Eli took first place at the IBM’s convention in Miami where his talents were also tapped to close the Gold Medal Show. More recently, Eli was voted Toledo's Top Talent beating out 23 other acts of all types. In 2008, ABC featured Eli and his family on their hit show Wife Swap.
In spite of all his traveling to and from magic conventions across the country, Eli manages to perform approximately 10-20 shows a month in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio. “I just love performing,” says Eli, and he will jump at any opportunity to do so. Eli’s 35 - 45 minute comedy-magic shows are perfect for birthday parties, banquets, school assemblies, club events, you name it. Eli's shows incorporate all of his joys; his award winning dove act, juggling and stage illusions if the venue is big enough. Balloon twisting and unicycling round out Eli’s amazing entertainment repertoire.
While Eli is very talented and had come a long way on his own, in 2010 it became apparant that if Eli wanted to take his magic to the next level, he would need to seek advice and assistance from the best magic performers and teachers in the world. Naturally, that led to Jeff McBride and the Mystery School. "Jeff's class opened my eyes to subtilites and moves in my perrmance that I had been overlooking for years," says Eli. "Priceless advice which I immediately put to work on costuming, body position, motivation, and help with my card techniique were just a few of the things I gained from my week with Jeff, Eugene, Larry and Bryce. I plan on taking another week of classes just as soon as I can fit it into my schedule. I can't thank Jeff and his team enough."
