Call for Presentations:
As in previous years, the 2013 Magic and Meaning Conference will feature a large number of 20-minute presentations from Conference participants. We are now accepting proposals for presentations from anyone who previously has attended the Magic and Meaning Conference. (Indeed, we have discovered that until someone has seen first-hand what these presentations are like in terms of audience and delivery, it is extremely difficult for them to be successful.)
Presentations are welcome on any topic relating to the performance of magic in meaningful ways (broadly understood). Each presentation will be 20 minutes in length; visual supplements such as Powerpoint are welcome (but not required). To submit a proposal for possible presentation at the Conference, please send a 100-200 word description of your topic to Larry Hass at: larry@lawrencehass.com. All proposals are due to Dr. Hass by July 15, 2013.
Call for Performances:
Following the success of our experiments in the past two years, Conference participants will have the opportunity to perform at the Conference in one or two types of shows. There will be “Ensemble Shows” (in which participants will be able to feature their favorite performance pieces) and, continuing a tradition started in 2010, there will be a “Nealist Show” (in which participants will perform the magic of Robert Neale).
We are now accepting proposals for 3-5 minute performances in one or both of these types of shows. Please send a brief description of the piece or pieces you would like to perform, including a statement of the effect and the props used, to Larry Hass at larry@lawrencehass.com. All proposals for performances are due to Dr. Hass by July 15, 2013.
Final Notes, Please Read Carefully:
Some of these presentations (not performances) will be made available as videos to people who become Members of the Magic & Mystery School at the Supporting level ($50 per year) or the Premier level ($100 per year). After substracting $20 to cover base operational costs, the rest of those membership fees go directly into the Magic & Mystery School Scholarship Fund for talented students who currently cannot afford to pay full price for their magic education. On behalf of the students who will benefit from your generosity, the faculty and staff of the School thanks you!
You will be informed by August 1, 2013 if your proposal(s) for presentation and/performance have been accepted. (Please note: The number of available slots for presentation and performance are limited.)
Registering for the Conference is required to present or perform there. For more information about the Magic and Meaning Conference, or to register for it, please visit: https://www.magicalwisdom.com/applications/add/455.
